Santana ft. Rob Thomas - Smooth (Christian Wheel Remix)

This 1999 hit by Santana and Rob Thomas topped the US charts for 12 weeks! It was the last #1 of the 90's and the first #1 of the 2000's. It's actually one of the most recent songs that Classic Hits radio plays regularly because of its universal appeal across age groups and demographics. But in terms of club play, it never really worked as a club record. The only remix that I recall coming out at the time the song was hot was the Chris Staropoli Remix, which was fine for what it was, but it had that sort of late 90's Thunderpuss-inspired beat that was a little too housey for pop audiences, while the song itself was a little too pop for house audiences.

So this remix might be 26 years late to the party but hey, better late than never! I pushed it up to 130 bpm from its original 116, and kept the guitar-driven heart of the song while changing the texture enough for a dance track. You still get the melody, the Latin rock feel, just with more motion and room to dance.
